Portable Compressor Showdown: Viair Recon Mini vs. CycPlus AS2 Pro
After some recent travel challenges, I decided it was time to invest in a reliable portable electric pump. I ordered two highly recommended models: the Viair Recon Mini Rider-Carry Air Compressor and the CycPlus AS2 Pro. Both are highly rated, similar in size and weight, and—thanks to Viair 10% discount—about the same price.
First Impressions
Right out of the box, the Viair stood out for its build quality. The valve is made of brass, giving it a sturdy, premium feel. In contrast, the CycPlus AS2 Pro felt noticeably less robust, with materials that didn’t inspire the same confidence.
The Test
To put these compressors to the test, I used each to inflate a tube tire to 70 psi. The results were clear: the Viair Recon Mini outperformed the CycPlus AS2 Pro in both speed and ease of use.
With the CycPlus AS2 Pro, I had to attach a hose just to get a good seal on the Presta valve. Inflating the tire was a struggle—it took almost double the time to reach 70 psi, used at least half of its battery charge, and the unit became really hot during use.
In contrast, the Viair Recon Mini quickly inflated the tire to 70 psi without getting hot or showing any noticeable decrease in battery charge. The seal was solid right from the handheld unit, making the process quick and hassle-free.
Verdict
Although both pumps are highly rated, I definitely recommend the Viair Recon Mini Rider-Carry Air Compressor Its superior build, efficient performance, and user-friendly design make it the clear winner for anyone needing a portable compressor—especially after dealing with the unpredictability of travel.
